Tutoring subjects FAQ

What subjects does Genie tutor?

English, Math, Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Geography, and the three Ontario Grade 12 math courses — Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), and Data Management (MDM4U). Each subject has its own teacher list.

What grades do you cover?

Grade 1 to Grade 12. Elementary subjects start at Grade 1, the senior sciences run from Grade 9, and the three Grade 12 math courses are senior-only. Each teacher profile lists the grades that teacher covers.

How much does tutoring cost?

Rates vary by teacher and are shown on each teacher's card and profile, so families can compare before choosing.

Are Genie teachers certified teachers?

Provincial certification is the standard Genie recruits to. On the public roster, most profiles also display the certificate itself and name the regulator that issued it, so you can check a teacher's credentials before choosing.

Are lessons 1-on-1 and online?

Yes. Genie lessons are one teacher and one student, taught online, and scheduled around the course the student is already taking.

How is a certified teacher different from a regular tutor?

A certified teacher is trained to teach a curriculum and assess it, not only to know the subject. Each Genie profile lists the teaching certifications that teacher has on file, so families can compare credentials before choosing.
