About Ms. Ismail
I teach English, from Grade 1 to Grade 12. Literature is my own subject, and it is the reason I teach: I want a student to finish a book because they wanted to, not because it was assigned. I taught at Maple Grove Public School, in the Halton District School Board, through the 2023–24 school year.
A single English class holds a very wide range a confident reader, a reluctant one, and a student who needs the same idea presented a different way before it lands and I plan for that range rather than for an average student who does not exist.
My lessons are hands-on. Students handle the text, argue with it and write about it, rather than reading and answering questions. That is how I work one to one as well.
Why Ms. Ismail teaches these subjects
Literature is the subject I never stopped reading for, and English is the one that follows a student into every other class. A student who can read closely and build an argument does better in history, in science, and in anything with a word problem in it. That is the part worth teaching properly.
