Students Mr. Cantisano is best with
Students who have plenty to say and want an easier way to start writing it down. Also students who do best with a teacher with a very long fuse, which a day treatment posting taught me to have.
About Mr. Cantisano
I am teaching right now, at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts with the Toronto Catholic District School Board, and I have taught across five of that board's schools since 2021. One of those was a day treatment program at Sunnybrook, for students who could not be in a regular classroom, and that posting reset my standards for patience.
My master's from the University of Ottawa is in studies in teaching and learning, my education degree from Nipissing is in English, and my first degree from York is in psychology. I registered with the Ontario College of Teachers in 2020. I teach English from Grade 1 to Grade 12 and math from Grade 1 to Grade 11.
My approach comes down to two words: practice, and growth. Writing in particular gets better by being done badly, then again, then again.
Why Mr. Cantisano teaches these subjects
I am in a classroom right now, so what I teach is what is actually being asked of students this year rather than five years ago. I teach English because writing is the clearest case of a skill that only improves by being done badly first, and I would rather a student got that part over with in front of me.
