About Mr. Omar
My master's from Athabasca University is in distance education, which means online teaching is the thing I studied rather than the thing I adapted to. My science background is a biochemistry honours degree from Carleton and an education degree from Queen's in intermediate and senior science, biology and chemistry.
I registered with the Ontario College of Teachers in 2005, and I have worked in Ontario education since 2002, including in school administration at Ottawa Islamic School. I teach Grade 11 and Grade 12 biology and chemistry, and science from Grade 8 to Grade 10. My teaching is inquiry led and built on the College's standards of care, respect and integrity.
The student asks the question, we design the way to answer it, and the content arrives attached to something they wanted to know.
Why Mr. Omar teaches these subjects
My master's is in distance education, so teaching online is the thing I studied rather than the thing I adapted to. I teach senior biology and chemistry because those are the courses that decide whether a student can take the program they want, and inquiry works best when the stakes are real.
