About Mr. Clarke
I teach English, geography and middle school math, and I currently work as a Grade 6 to 12 English language arts coach in Saint John, New Brunswick. Coaching means my actual job is helping other teachers explain things better, which is a strange and very useful thing to have done before sitting down with a student.
I taught in Fort McMurray, Alberta before New Brunswick, and I know the Alberta diploma exams in both English and social studies well enough to prepare a student for the format and not only the content. I earned my New Brunswick certification in 2024 with an English specialisation, and I also host an education podcast about improving teaching craft.
In sessions I lean on guided group work, games where they fit, and a room where being wrong costs nothing.

My job right now is helping other English teachers explain things better, so I spend my days taking apart explanations that do not land. I teach English and social studies because both are marked on how you argue rather than on what you remember, and arguing well is a skill you can teach.
