About June
I earned my British Columbia teaching certificate in 2000, and my education degree from UBC is in secondary math. I have worked with students since 2001, and for more than ten years of that my work has centred on autism, ADHD and dyslexia, more recently including mild intellectual disability and adult basic education.
I teach senior math: Grade 10 through Grade 12, and Calculus and Vectors. Two things I have learned. A student who processes differently is not a student who works slower. And a tutor is one part of a support system that also includes a family, a school, and often something hard happening at home.
I teach in English and Cantonese. Some of the students I have sat beside were going through loss or separation while doing calculus, and the calculus went better once I stopped pretending otherwise.
Why June teaches these subjects
I teach senior math because it is the subject where a student with a learning difference gets written off fastest, and most often wrongly. Processing differently is not the same as working slower. Calculus is very clear about who understands it, which makes it a fair place to prove the point.
