Students Ms.Thomas is best with
Students who have the definitions down and are ready to put them to work on real questions. Also families who need science and math from the same teacher, because I teach across both and can move between them inside one session.
About Ms.Thomas
I trained as a botanist before I trained as a teacher. My master's in botany is from Madras University, and my education degree is from MG University. Most recently I taught at the Durham Catholic District School Board in Ontario as a long term occasional teacher, which means I stepped into classes across the school and picked up wherever the last teacher stopped.
That habit shapes how I tutor. I find out what a student already holds before I add anything new to it. I teach biology from Grade 7 to Grade 12, chemistry and science from Grade 1 to Grade 12, and math to Grade 6. Teaching the same subject at several grade levels has one advantage: I can usually spot the gap two grades back that is causing today's problem.
Why Ms.Thomas teaches these subjects
I came to teaching through botany. Years of looking closely at how a plant actually works left me asking why before what, and that is the habit I try to hand over. Biology and chemistry are not lists to memorise. They are explanations for things a student has already seen and never questioned.
